Valcor Aerospace Capabilities & Products

As a custom fluid control device designer and manufacturer, Valcor Engineering Corporation (www.valcor.com) has produced valves, regulators, actuators and accumulators that have served the space market for decades. Valcor is a manufacturing company that works closely with our customers to create a custom engineered solution to their demanding fluid control requirements. Valcor has produced hundreds of qualified space products with superior heritage that are used on missiles, satellites, spacecraft, and launch vehicles. These platforms include first, second and upper stage pressurization and fuel/oxidizer control systems and environmental control and life support systems (ECLSS). Valcor’s product offerings for Aerospace systems include the following:

Service Valves

Valcor’s family of service, or fill and drain, valves is extensive. Service valve designs can handle design pressures up to 10,000 psi, cryogenic applications, and operating fluids such as MMH, NTO, GHe, GN2, and ammonia. Valve Cv’s range from .012 to 0.81 depending upon operating pressure. Valve interfaces include tube stubs for welding into systems.

Propellant Isolation Valves

Valcor has several qualified designs for propellant isolation applications. Many of these designs include a latching feature. Latching options can be designed with a single coil or dual coil. Isolation valves are designed to handle MMH and NTO compatibility challenges with material choices. Non latching designs are rated for continuous duty. Response times are usually less than 100 msec. Position indication options are also available.

Other isolation valve designs handle hydrogen & oxygen fluids and the extreme demands associated with cryogenic temperatures.

Pressurization Control Valves

Valcor has been designing and producing pressurization control valves for decades. Some of our designs are used on the Delta IV and Atlas V launch systems.

Valcor pressurization valves are high-flow and fast acting for precise pressure control. These are pilot operated designs with valve response less than 100 milliseconds, at pressures as high as 5,000 psi. These valves are optimized for minimum weight and envelope and meet stringent leakage (internal and external) requirements. All valves utilize Valcor’s proprietary poppet designs that exhibit superior performance in high vibration environments.

High Pressure Regulators

Valcor has a regulator design for a missile defense application. Valcor regulators come in high pressure, dual stage – when tight pressure control is required – and high flow. The below pressure regulator is a single-stage design that is used on a 10,000 psi GHe pressurization system.

Thruster Valves

Valcor products include a series of solenoid operated valves used in various thruster applications. These include hot gas and cold gas thruster platforms. Valcor’s thruster valves are direct and fast acting. They are designed for use with propellants such as: MMH, NTO, Hydrazine, Hydrogen Peroxide, as well as inert gases such as GN2, GHe, Xenon, and Argon. Single or series redundant designs are available. These are well suited for use on spacecraft, satellites, missiles, and launch vehicle applications.

Check Valves

Valcor has a line of check valves that are utilized where back flow conditions are not acceptable. Configurations come in single or series redundant configurations. Valcor check valve design attributes include very low crack pressure, minimum pressure drop, and “chatter free” operation. Valcor utilizes our “velocity head compensation” technology that eliminates “chattering” conditions that are common in check valve applications.

Relief Valves

Valcor has an extensive line of relief valves designed to offer critical safety to areas of a propulsion system where over-pressurization protection is critical. Valcor Relief valve types are available direct acting or pilot operated designs. Typically, full flow is achieved within 10% of cracking pressure and re-seat is within 20% of cracking pressure. Valcor has specialized designs for compatibility with MMH/NTO and Cryogenic fluids.

Accumulators/Propellant Tanks

Valcor has extended our extensive experience producing aircraft accumulators with a design used in a rocket engine Thrust Vector Control (TVC) system. This piston style type is used to provide back-up pressure to a Thrust Vector Control Actuator. This accumulator is both Kevlar and carbon fiber wrapped. Valcor maintains in-house fiber wrapping manufacturing capability and design experience with various wrapping geometries and materials. Materials include carbon fiber, Kevlar, and fiberglass.

Valcor has also produced piston style tanks used for propulsion systems. This Valcor design contains carbon fiber wrapping to minimize weight, envelope, and volumetric dead volume. This pressure vessel weighs 60 grams (<0.2 lbm) with 8 cubic inches of propellant capacity and a burst pressure of 2,000 psi.
